Gut-Microbiome Implications in Opioid Use Disorder and Related Behaviors

Substance use disorder (SUD) is a prevalent disease that has caused hundreds of thousands deaths and affected the lives even more. Despite its global impact, there still no known cure for SUD, or psychological symptoms associated with drug use. Many behavioral consequences prevent people from breaking cycle addiction cause them to relapse back into due physical withdrawal. Current research aimed at understanding these related behaviors therapeutically targeting as mechanism break cycle. Research on opioids suggests changes in microbiome during modulated preventing microbial could attenuate symptoms. This review aims highlight relationship between behavior opioid treatment, well additional needed understand which modulates determine best therapeutic course action.
